AUM NAMASHIVAYA

Lord Shiva is one of the three Gods of Hindu Trinity. Lord Shiva is the destructor, and he is the Lord of mercy and compassion. He protects devotees from evil forces such as lust, greed, and anger. He grants boons, bestows grace and awakens wisdom . Lord Shiva is the remover of sin and the Lord of mercy and compassion. Lord Shiva is worshipped in 108 names; some of them are Neelakanta, Shankar, Nataraja, Pashupathi, Maheswar etc. Shivaratri is the day devoted to Lord Shiva and the devotees spend the whole day worshipping Him.

Mahashivaratri falls on the 13th or the 14th night of the new moon during Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Phalgun. The Sanskrit term, Krishna Paksha means the period of waning moon or the dark fortnight and Phalguna corresponds to the month of February - March in English Calendar.

According to Puranas, worshipping Lord Shiva on Maha Shivaratri cleanse one of all sins. The devotees of Lord Shiva observe this festival with great devotion. Fasting and prayers are the more important parts of this festival. They observe fasting the whole day and the night, visiting Shiva temples and chanting Om Namashivaya ..Mahashivratri is celebrated to get rid of evil and ignorance.

The negative Karma can be converted into positive energy with the blessings of Lord Shiva and attain the bliss of Moksha, on this auspicious occasion!

He who utters the Names of Shiva during Shivaratri, with perfect devotion and concentration, is freed from all sins. He gets Moksha and he is liberated from the wheel of births and deaths.

The two great natural forces that afflict man are Rajas (the quality of passionate activity) and Tamas (that of inertia). The Shivaratri Vrata aims at the perfect control of these two. The entire day is spent at the Feet of the Lord chanting Panchakshari mantra and fasting.
