Uppuma, an easy breakfast..
Uppuma is very easy to make.. It is a quick breakfast item or an evening snack. South Indians add innovative ideas to make an ordinary uppuma more delicious and presentable . Here is the recipe for the ordinary traditional uppuma.
Ingredients
Rawa (sooji) 1cup
Ghee or oil 2 tablespoon
Green chillies 2
ginger a piece
3 small onions
curry leaves
salt
Cashew nut and raisins
coconut scrapings
Method.
Fry the cashew nuts and raisins and keep aside. Heat a non stick pan, add ghee. For seasoning, add a tsp urad dhal, (uzhunnu) chans dhal (kadala parippu), mustard seeds, and 2 split red chillies. When it is fried, add finely chopped green chillies, ginger, curry leaves and onions. When they turn red, add rawa and fry till it changes color slightly. Add salt.
Meanwhile keep 2 cups water boiling. Add enough water to soak the rawa. Never add more than 2 cups water for 1 cup rawa. Keep on stirring well without forming big lumps.
Garnish with cashew nuts and raisins and lots of coconut scrapings (optional).
We can eat uppuma adding sugar or curds and pickles.
